Preview: The best new places to eat in London

Whether you prefer fun French dining or exclusive avant-garde cuisine, here are the upcoming openings that London’s visitors and residents need to know about.

Bagatelle, Mayfair

Having first opened in New York (pictured) in 2012, Bagatelle’s trademark blend of classic French Mediterranean bistro dishes, relaxed dining spaces and fun social events will soon be making a home in Mayfair – adding London to a list of outposts that includes Miami, St Barth, Monte Carlo and Ibiza. The brand’s motto is ‘joie de vivre’, which it expresses through its live music, busy brunches and cocktails; diners can expect a similarly exuberant atmosphere this spring.

Nusr-Et, Knightsbridge

You may have seen Nusret Gökçe in action already – the ‘Salt Bae’ video, in which he seasons some impressive-looking steaks with a distinctive flourish, went viral with nine million views (and counting). Having opened his first steakhouse in Istanbul in 2010, Gökçe’s new global popularity has allowed him to expand his mouthwatering offerings to meat lovers in prestigious locations such as Miami, New York, Dubai – and now London, at the Park Tower hotel in Knightsbridge.

Hide, Green Park

Anyone who misses Fitzrovia’s legendary Dabbous will be delighted to learn of the upcoming spring opening of Hide. This new venture from culinary genius Ollie Dabbous is also a collaboration with Hedonism Wines, meaning excellence is assured in diners’ glasses as well as on their plates – 6,500 bottles are available to pre-order. The most spectacular thing about Hide isn’t even its food (which is truly saying something); diners seeking the height of discretion can access the private first floor dining room via a car lift.

Sushisamba, Covent Garden

Every day is a high-energy carnival for diners at Sushisamba. Whether it’s Miami, Las Vegas, Amsterdam or the sky-high setting in London’s Bishopsgate (pictured), all of Sushisamba’s interiors are designed to invoke a celebratory, festival feel. For their second London location the brand has commissioned a new glass structure on Covent Garden’s Opera Terrace, under which it will serve its eclectic Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine from this summer onwards.
