The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, is one of the most exclusive fashion events in the world. Held annually in New York City, the Met Gala attracts the biggest names in fashion, music, and entertainment. It is affectionately referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out,” and the 2023 event is expected to be no exception.
In honour of Karl Lagerfeld, a regular attendee of the Met Gala, the 2023 event will feature the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The event will take place on 01 May 2023.
As a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala is a celebration of creativity and style. Guests are expected to curate their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit, which is generally haute couture. The event welcomes stars, young creatives, and industry paragons, and is organised by the fashion magazine Vogue.
In 2021 and 2022, the Costume Institute hosted its first two-part exhibition on the theme of American fashion. Part one, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” opened in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on 18 September 2021, and “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” opened on 05 May 2022, in the period rooms of the American Wing.
