Paris Cosmopolite 2017 Métiers d’Art Show – Paris

Annually Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Show is a highlight on the fashion calendar. In its 13th year, the show honours the craftsmanship that goes into a Chanel collection. The theme year-to-year celebrates one of the legendary fashion house’s important markets. Years past have seen the show go to Rome (in celebration of a new boutique opening), Salzburg, Dallas, Edinburgh, Mumbai (hosted at the Grand Palais) and New York.

This year it’s almost a breath of fresh air that creative director Karl Lagerfeld decided to keep the theme closer to home. Paying tribute to the newly refurbished Ritz and Coco Chanel’s former residence, the collection was presented light-heartedly with the new-gen supermodels (including Cara Delevingne, Lily-Rose Depp and Pharell) flirting with guests.

As touched on, this collection is a celebration of Chanel’s wide network of artisanal partners. Jewellery was provided by Desrues. A Chanel partner since 1936, the jewellery maker is responsible for Chanel’s signature buttons. The accessories featuring feathers have been created by Lemarié since the 1950s. The manufacturer also created the famed 16-petal camellia design, a Chanel signature.

As for their iconic footwear, Chanel has partnered with Massaro since 1957. Lesage has handled embroidery for Chanel since 2002, while its famed eastern-inspired brooches have been created by goldsmith Goossens. Hats and hair accessories have been crafted by millner Maison Michel since the 1970s. Their signature gloves have been handled by Causse, founded in 1892.
