Settle in at the New York Edition

Set in a spectacular 41-story early 1900s clock tower overlooking Madison Square Park in the Flatiron District, the New York Edition hotel makes the perfect base for sporting events at Madison Square Garden or theatre on Broadway.

The creation of hospitality maestro Ian Schrager (the brains – and heart – behind some of the most sophisticated urban hotels of the last three decades), the iconic former Metropolitan Life Insurance Company office now hosts 273 guest rooms, suites and penthouses.

The rooms offer a wealth of comforts, with dark and blonde woods and a subtle, warm palette of neutral shades and luxe fabrics. Most rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with – depending on location – glimpses of the city, Madison Square Park or the Empire State Building beyond. The breathtaking views continue from the spa and 24-hour gym on the 39th floor.

Downstairs, the lobby area is huge, comfortable and welcoming, reflecting Schraeger’s fondness for ‘lobby socialising’. It’s intended to be the place for longer-term relaxing, working or socialising, aided by the subdued lighting and sculptural architectural details.

Continuing the social emphasis, the relaxed lobby bar’s enormous windows overlook Madison Square Park. Mixologists serve playful bespoke cocktails and there’s an exclusively brewed local ale on offer, too.

A floor above with three intimate dining rooms, a bar and a billiards room, The Clocktower restaurant is helmed by British Michelin-starred Chef Jason Atherton. His debut venture in the US offers a menu of ‘seasonally-inspired contemporary cuisine infused with British sensibilities’.
