Web Summit

Web Summit is an annual technology conference considered the largest and most important tech event in the world. Founded in 2009, Web Summit was originally held in Dublin, Ireland, until 2016, when it moved permanently to Lisbon, Portugal. The conference’s topics centre on emerging technologies and venture capitalism.

The event attracts approximately 800 speakers and 100,000 attendees, which includes a mix of CEOs, subject-matter experts, celebrities, and politicians. Past speakers have included Reed Hastings, the founder and CEO of Netflix; former U.S. presidential candidate Al Gore; U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres; founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey; former NBA basketball star Shaquille O’Neal; theoretical physicist Stephen Hawkins; and co-founder of Tesla, Elon Musk.

Web Summit partners range from Fortune 500 companies including Cisco, Microsoft, Google, Huawei and KPMG to start-ups, with attendees representing all levels and sectors of the global high technology industry.

Last year’s edition took place from 4-7 November 2019 at the Altice Arena & Fil and featured speakers including Edward Snowden; former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair; former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko; and Katherine Maher, the CEO of Wikipedia.

Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, Web Summit will go ahead this year from 2-4 December 2020. The event will be held entirely online, which shouldn’t be a problem for a tech conference described by The Guardian as “Glastonbury for geeks”.

Tickets for the event provides access to 100+ hours of live-streamed content across 30 topics spanning the tech industry’s biggest trends and the opportunity to network through Web Summit’s event apps.
