The 2014 Sassicaia Vintage from Armit Wines

Sassicaia is pleased to announce the launch of its 2014 vintage. Hot on the heels of the success of its 2013 vintage, 2014 became available to the public from 1 February.

This celebrated vintage is produced by Tenuta San Guido known for its wine’s suppleness and grace with perfumed aromatics. Experts have praised the 2014 vintage saying it “whispers rather than shouts” with an ethereal beauty and profundity lost in bolder vintages.

Last night Insignia had the opportunity to give Sassicaia’s 2014 vintage a try. Accompanied by a hearty Italian meal, its tasting notes were elegant and complex with balance and length. It boasts aromatic notes of cherry and raspberry mingling with rosemary and lavender. With a refreshing and smooth textured palate, supple tannins are balanced by red cherry and sweet plum. Armit Wines’ head of buying, James Snoxell says, “A wine with lovely depth and a gorgeous finish, it is surprisingly attractive now but has all the freshness, intensity and refinement for long ageing.”

Sassicaia was founded in the 1940s by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. He produced his vintages purely for familial consumption until the 1968 vintage was released in 1971 to much fanfare. Sassicaia became known as the first Super Tuscan, a classification of wine made outside of DEC (Denominazioni di origine controllata) regulations. They tend to be high in quality and as a result boast higher price points.
